Welcome to my campaign website! I’m Stephanie Powell, proud to call San Antonio’s East Side my home since adulthood, running for City Council in District 2 with a fire in my heart to make our community shine brighter. I’m here to bring real change—tackling the issues that hit us hardest: safe streets, good jobs, affordable housing, and a budget that works for our ~135,000 East Siders, not against us. Let’s build a District 2 where every family thrives, every voice is heard, and every street hums with pride
I was born in Houston, the youngest of six, but San Antonio’s East Side—right by the Alamodome—became my home when I joined the U.S. Air Force, serving 12 years here before commissioning in 2000. I’m a widow, mom, GiGi, and “world’s best auntie,” with deep roots in our ~60% Hispanic, ~25% Black community. My parents, Calvin and Margaret Coleman, taught me grit and service—values I carried through St. Phillips and Palo Alto Community Colleges, then a Bachelor’s and Master’s from Wayland Baptist University San Antonio. I retired from the Air Force in 2013 after 30+ years—enlisted in Personnel, officer in Program Management—settling back here with my late husband Ronald, a retired USAF MSgt. Now, I’m still a civil servant, juggling a full-time gig while fighting for you.
Why I’m Running: District 2’s at a crossroads—crime’s up, jobs are shaky, and housing costs are pushing folks out of places like Dignowity Hill. I’ve seen it firsthand, from my own car wreck chaos to helping seniors at Ella Austin with VA paperwork. We’re facing big debates—like Project Marvel’s Spurs/Missions plan near Alamodome, which could clog our streets without fire and road fixes first. I’m running to cut through the noise, self-funded with no PACs, to focus on what matters: fixing Walters Street potholes, keeping Sam Houston High strong without vouchers, and making sure our ~$35,000-income families aren’t left behind. I know this district inside out—I’ve walked its streets, grilled at Lincoln Park, cheered at Spurs watch parties—and I’m ready to lead with your voice front and center.
My Vision: I see a District 2 where prosperity and unity aren’t just words—they’re real. Safe streets from Denver Heights to Government Hill, where kids play without fear and workers like Rashad at Alamodome walk home easy. More jobs—grants for St. Paul Square shops like Anita’s, so our East Side economy hums, especially with the World Heritage Center boosting tourism since February 2025. Affordable housing so families like Sofia’s stay rooted, not priced out. Infrastructure that works—smoother roads with Loop 1604’s 2025 flyovers, better paths from San Pedro Creek’s Phase 3 this spring. And a budget that cuts waste, not dreams—more for Ella Austin programs, less for pet projects. I want us proud of our heritage—our civil rights legacy, our murals on East Commerce—coming together at barbecues and MLK Marches, building a future our grandkids will love. Join me—together, we rise!
